Mr. Chau Minh Chinh, the general director of the IFACO said : after seven months for the giant barb mutation to Mr. Thai Van Huong ( Binh Khanh ward, Long Xuyen city, An Giang province) in order to breed in pond and combine with other fishes : the old Pangasius, the carp, the stink tench…The result shows that the giant barb develops very quickly, get the weight of 2.05 kg/ fish, the alive rate is 100%.

According to Mr. Minh, this is the quiet fish, eating planktons only. Now, the traders find to buy the giant barb commercial products with VND 85.000/kg in cost (with the weight of 10kg and over). Mr. Huong said that from the day raising fishes till now, he is not take any costs except the breeds. With the quanlity of 2.000 fishes raised after three years,if the average weight about 10kg/ fish, they will get about VND 1.4 billion. Now, there are five families raising the gaint barb in pond in An Giang province, with 20.000 fishes in quanlity, handed over by IFACO.  Nguyen Duy
